For myself, I'm actually using a lefty stick so my right hand will be holding the top whereas my left hand will be holding the area towards bottom of the grip. Square your shoulders and closed hips, lean forward with your upper body to create a line from shoulder to knee to foot. Ensure that the ball is always at the base of the blade closest to the shaft and that the ball is in a line with the front foot.
I guess people buying sticks should be careful about the weight, the length, the flex, the type of blade, the curvation of the stick. It all plays a part so be sure to try the stick out before any purchase ! (:
