This is the ultimate instant pot chili recipe! You will love this classic bean and beef chili recipe that I'm going to share with you that is specially prepared using the magical instant pot. The very quick cooking process gives you a very rich and hearty chili. Your family will be asking for you to make this quick and easy instant pot chili recipe over and over again.
I grew up eating chili and it has been one of our family’s favorite. I remember being so excited every time my mom is cooking up chili for dinner. I can smell the beef chili even when I’m in the next room. My sisters and I would be asking many times if it’s dinner time already so we can already taste her dish! Oh, how I miss those times and my mom’s recipe!
The only difference in my instant pot chili from my mom’s is that instead of cooking it using the stove top, I cook it using a pressure cooker. Like my mom’s chili, it really tastes like it has been simmering all day long, but the truth is that it has only been prepared for one hour. That’s the magic of having an instant pot!
If you’re on the lookout for the best instant pot chili recipe, I got you covered!
1. Change your instant pot settings to the saute function and give it some time to heat up.
2. Put in the diced onions and ground meat. Brown your ground meat for a minute.
3. Add in your broth and gently scrape up the browned bits off. (Important Note: this third step is necessary because leaving lots of browned bits may cause your instant pot to not come to pressure properly)
4. Once you scrape every piece of brown bits off, you can now add in the beans and remaining seasonings. Do not forget to place a lid on your instant pot with the valve closed to “sealing.”
5. For about 30 minutes, cook on high pressure for dried beans.
6. Allow pressure to naturally release–about 15 minutes.
You may also tweak this recipe a little bit by using a different meat or beans option.
Meat: You can also use turkey or beef for your instant pot chili! As a matter of fact, you can use chicken or pork! Go and experiment with other types of meat and see what works best for you and your family. Of course, beef is the top choice since it is the classic take on chili. But I’m sure using another type of meat would work too.
Beans: Chili can be prepared using either canned or dried beans in the instant pot. For me, I prefer kidney beans or red beans. But I also discovered that pinto beans and black beans work just fine. They ate also great options for chili.
Do not worry because no matter what type of meat or beans you use, the cooking time will remain the same for your instant pot! Isn’t it amazing? An instant pot really does wonders.
Have you ever heard of people saying how chili only gets better after it sits for some time? For me, this is absolutely true. Leftover chili is way better than freshly made chili in my opinion. I think the reason behind this is due to the time the flavors have been mixed together.
Instant pot chili lasts for about 4 to 5 days in the fridge. But the truth is, we rarely have any chili leftovers to fridge! But if we do, we place it in the fridge for quick meals the days after.

I am going to give you some insights regarding the different types of Instant Pot.
The lux is the original and cheapest option. Why? I think that the main reason is that it only gives you one pressure option: High. This is totally fine. It is just that sometimes it is a bit tempting to go for other features. It is a great thing to know that most dishes require high pressure, so the Lux is good to go.
If you have a tight budget, this is the perfect choice for you. Do not worry, it still has slow-cooked, rice, sauté, and steam settings. You can still enjoy and have some fun playing around and experimenting with your Instant Pot.
Instant Pot Lux
After the Lux, comes the Duo. This Instant Pot offers two settings—a low-pressure setting and the high-pressure one. The lower pressure level is perfect for preparing foods such as desserts, soup or vegetables.
Another great thing about this is that you can use it as a yogurt maker! (I also wrote an article about making instant pot yogurt at home! It is super easy!)
Instant Pot Duo
The Duo Plus has the same features as the Duo, and some more added features (hence the name). With this model, you get everything the Duo has plus sterilize, cake, and egg settings. It also comes with a bigger screen that lets you see the status of the cooker while it is working. This screen also makes things easier as you adjust the settings in the middle of your cooking process.
The Duo Plus also gives you the feature of being able to keep your food warm for the whole day.
Instant Pot Duo Plus
And now.... for the most awaited Instant Pot, the most special of them all: the Ultra!
With this pot, you can have your settings customized by you. you get the ability to customize your own settings. If you love playing with your appliances to suit your needs, this is perfect for you. If you’re like me, who don’t bother tweaking my appliances’ settings, you might not really enjoy this feature.
BUT, if you are NOT like me and you actually want to tinker, go for this one! I know a lot of people who had a great time with this Ultra Instant Pot. You might just be one of them!
Instant Pot Ultra
When I was shopping for an Instant Pot for the very first time, the first thing I noticed is the fact that Instant Pots comes in different sizes. There are 3-, 6-, and 8-quart options.
For most people, I believe that the 6 quarts are just fine. It's the perfect size you need to prepare a decent amount of instant pot chicken soup or instant pot chili. Just in case that you find yourself doubling up that instant pot chili recipe (or if you have a large family) then you must opt for a bigger 8-quart model.
Personally, I would like to go for the smallest one since I’m usually cooking for 2-3 (I have a toddler). However, 6-quart is the safest choice.
So if you want to try making chili using an instant pot, every single one of these Instant pots will help you with that.
I hope that this article has been helpful to you. This information about the different types of Instant Pot has helped me a lot in making the best decision! Have fun with your instant pot!
