Best Sunscreens to Beat the Summer Heat

The summer sun is just around the corner, so it's time to step up your sun protection gears. Before you slather on your sunscreens, let me first share with you 3 reminders that may help you level up that protection:

First, know that there are 2 kinds of harmful ultraviolet rays: UVA (Aging Rays) and UVB (Burning Rays).

UVA rays cause aging and lasting skin damage, while UVB rays cause skin damage such as sunburn. Both of these ultraviolet rays can lead to skin cancer so it's important to step up your sun protection products.

Second, know your SPF number.

The SPF (or sun protection factor) is the measurement of how well a particular sunscreen will shield you from UVB damage. Basically, SPF 15 is pretty much enough to protect your skin from sunburn and aging. However, you may want to increase your sun protection by using SPF 30 or 50 if you have had skin cancer or more prone to skin problems.

Third, know when to reapply.

Basically, it's best to reapply sunscreen after an hour or two. If you're out for a swim, reapply once you get out of the water. You may also need to reapply after sweating since your sweat may wash off your sunscreen.

Here are some products that can help you shield yourself from the harmful rays of the sun:

Lips: Supergoop SPF 30+ UVA/UVB Lip Balm

Show your lips some SPF love! If you're on the lookout for a lip balm that offers sun protection but doesn't feel heavy, sticky or tastes bad, this is perfect for you. It is super easy to spread, smells amazing and it doesn't feel strange on the lips. The packaging looks nice too. The antioxidant benefits of the acai berry are also a big plus in protecting the lips from free-radicals. This one is a keeper!

Body: Neutrogena Beach Defense Sunscreen Spray Broad Spectrum SPF 70

Protect your body from the sun using this sunscreen spray. If you're heading to the beach, don't forget to toss this in your bag. It glides on easily, goes on thin, and smells amazing too! You can't go wrong with this one. It also stayed put for several hours. But like all sunscreens, it's still best to reapply every 2 hours after water exposure.

Face: Sunbum Premium Sunscreen Face Stick

You don't need a mirror to use this face stick. Unlike other products, this facial sunscreen stick does not clog pores or cause an allergic reaction. You can use it all over your face, ears, and neck. It has a nice scent and a smooth waxy texture. It's kind of waterproof too.

Face and Body: Ocean Potion 30183 Kids Sunblock

Children's skin is more delicate and sensitive compared to adults. It's best to use sunscreens that are specially formulated for kids. This sunblock is not sticky and feels very light on the skin. I also love that it's all natural! My only problem with this is that it comes in a small bottle. I hope they would make a bigger one!

Keep yourself protected from the sun!
